Class 3 Progress Blog

During Class 2, the professor demonstrated how to take an HDRI and put the different timed exposures into photoshop to create a high res 32 bit HDR. The first step was to open photoshop and under file and a tab called automate there is an option that is called Merge to HDR Pro that will compile the different exposures that was taken.

After importing the different images, the next step is to make sure remove ghosts are on, make sure it is in 32 Bit mode, and turn off the Complete Toning in Adobe Camera Raw.

The final step is cropping the image to be used

Because of the referenced I used from the Image Library labeled, P1_Shed_Jung, it did not have the multiple exposures, but instead the folder has an HDR file ready for use. To test the lighting, I added a sphere that is relatively the same size as the reference image, 2 x 2 x 2. Then I lined it up similarly to the cube.

Then, I imported the HDR into the Skydome and added a ground plane in order to cast some shadow. I gave a material to the sphere and using the render viewer, began looking at the starting shadow that it casts.

Because the shadow is off from the reference, I rotated the Skydome to get a more accurate shadow. The next step that I am working on is getting the shadow to match the references by looking at both the shadow and the highlight.

I also looked at the first steps for render layers and set up my render setup system to Legacy Render Layers under preferences which is still under progress.
