Genetic discrimination (checking the DNA clip)
"They used to say a child conceived with love had the best chance of happiness, they don't say that anymore."
This movie is set in a world where most births are monitored by a geneticist. From the moment someone meets up with someone they are able to compare the genetic compatibility. It furthers any disability discrimination because there is the option to choose the superior genetic makeup. Even when someone is born naturally, it is looked down upon. In the movie there is this scene where a woman meets with a man, kisses him, and goes directly to this window where they are able to swipe her lip to get the DNA from the man. The DNA is sampled and there is data to show what children you may produce. It is about breeding out any prejudices.
My first idea was bringing it into our modern world and having a dating app that someone could insert their genetic data and it will pair them with the most genetically compatible person. There could be pop up shops, like in the movie, that can genetically test and that data goes into the database, if they already don't have it on file. While having this feature on an app may seem as innocent as finding another commonality between to people like what their interests, but it can lead to other issues like people getting into major abusive relationships just because they are genetically compatible and feeling stuck thinking it is the only chance to have a kid that will be happy. Only because happiness his found in genetic superiority. It creates a genetic focused society.
My second idea was to flip it and have only the genetically chosen births be discriminated against. It seems like a more realistic option considering the medical bias state of todays society. If a child is not born naturally with genetic randomization, then they can be considered fake or a robot of some sorts and inferior to those born naturally, pushing the "your parents didn't make you, the doctor did" discrimination. It is just another pick at who is different from todays society and if there is one error, then they are ostracized from society. Not to mention, messing with genetic can be considered a religious crime and a act of "playing god".
My third idea was to play off of the option of choice. In the movie, the parents are able to choose what kind of genetic issues they want to remove or what genes they want to contain. Although they are questioned if they want a natural birth, they still have that option even when it is discriminated against. Government regulated programs that are made to create the "superior race". These programs can look at statistics and genetically influence what babies need to be born. If there is a decrease in females, they can make sure more females are born. If some kind of illness or inconvenience needs to be eradicated, sure it would take a couple generations, but they have that control.
